Introduction

“Your fate is about to shift.”
An ordinary life. About to change forever.

In today’s world, we see more and more of other people’s success and happy lives on social media.
Many of us find ourselves thinking, “I wish I could be like that,” while feeling a sense of impatience with our own ordinary reality. But how far would you go to make all your wishes come true?

Woman Who Sold Her Shadow follows a woman drawn to the promise of a Cinderella-like life and sudden success, and poses a simple, honest question: What is true happiness?

Based on an original story by Ryuho Okawa and directed by Hiroshi Akabane—known for numerous hit films including Before the Sunset (2023, Nikkatsu)—this film stars Nao Hasegawa in her first leading role. She plays Yuko Kawai, an ordinary woman who sells her shadow in exchange for having all her wishes granted, capturing the emotional reality of her choices.

In the end, what really matters?
A powerful message for those living in the present—now brought to life on screen.
